According to Daily Mail Online, Manchester United have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the pursuit of Derby County starlet Malcolm Ebiowei ahead of the next season. He has been one of the brightest sparks for his side in this campaign, having shown a great fight to survive the relegation battle in the Championship despite a massive point reduction.

Naturally, Ebiowei has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, with Tottenham and Crystal Palace already being in the transfer race. His contract winding up soon has made him a more attractive prospect, and now Man United have entered the pursuit alongside Newcastle United as well.

The Englishman who has also played for the Netherlands at the youth level is expected to leave Derby on a free transfer this summer. Wayne Rooney has already backed the promise the teenager has shown so far by conveying that he possesses “enormous ability” to succeed moving forward.

Exciting youth talent for Spurs?

The 18-year-old has earned quite a name for himself after Rooney decided to count on him following the dire circumstances that unravelled at the Pride Park club. Despite the massive jump from their youth system to senior team football, he has impressed with flying colours in the Championship.

It is understandable why several PL sides are trying their best to facilitate a move for the Rams ace at the end of this term. Furthermore, his ability to play anywhere in the attack or even on the wide-right as a midfielder or a wing-back adds to the list of reasons why we should target him.

After all, Ebiowei could become a future superstar if he undergoes proper guidance to help him reach the potential he has shown at such a young age. Moreover, him being available for free should be enough of a reason to sign him as it would not hurt to add another youth talent to supplement our senior team in the future.

Rooney’s admission also indicates that Spurs should not have any doubts over their pursuit of Ebiowei after the current campaign. However, things would certainly be difficult for us with these PL clubs vying to secure the youngster’s services this summer.

But they are not the only ones in this transfer race, as Fabrizio Romano adds that Monaco and Vitesse are also targeting Ebiowei. However, the North Londoners are handed a further blow as Romano also conveys that Steve McClaren leaving Derby to join the Red Devils could play a part in this tussle.

With Rooney also being Derby’s manager, it remains to be seen if the Manchester side would use that to gain an edge over their rivals. Fortunately, the race seems to be open for now, as Ebiowei has not made a final decision on his future just yet.
