Alessandro Bastoni is the primary transfer target for Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur
According to Daily Mail, Antonio Conte has chosen Inter Milan star Alessandro Bastoni as his primary transfer target to strengthen his Tottenham Hotspur squad.
The Italian has shown top-notch consistency for Inter Milan and continues to impress under Simone Inzaghi. He was already a crucial defender in Conte’s Inter squad that won the Serie A title in 2021, but his performance has matured in this campaign which reflects his growth.
Conte held a crucial transfer meeting with managing director Fabio Paratici where they discussed the club’s transfer targets for the summer window. It is believed that they have shortlisted central defenders who would be the best fit for the club and Antonio Conte is highly favouring former player Alessandro Bastoni to take up the role next season.
Tottenham are also keeping tabs on Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Red Bull Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol in case their transfer approach for Bastoni gets nowhere. It is a wise move for the North Londoners to avoid putting all their eggs in one basket.
Good move for the team?
When Conte took charge of our team, it was a complete mess as we weren’t performing consistently enough to challenge for a top-four finish. However, the Italian manager brought about massive changes, leading the club to next season’s UEFA Champions League.
However, there are still some gaps in the team that need to be filled in order to get the best out of the squad. Conte has emphasised the importance of transfer moves and he would be eyeing to get some of the preferred choices to build a team that would be able to compete for the title.
Conte has favoured a three-man backline with three central defenders in his 3-4-3 formation. However, due to the lack of depth at Tottenham, he has been obliged to play full-back, Ben Davies, in the defensive line. Even though it has worked to a certain extent the team might do better with a proper centre back with solid skills.

Bastoni maintained a great relationship with Conte during his term at the Giuseppe Meazza. He was a preferred centre back choice of the manager and their partnership played a role in the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto triumph. The Italian defender might be tempted to join his former manager under whom he achieved incredible success.
