Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur ‘in pole position’ to sign Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic
According to Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are set to beat Chelsea and Juventus in the race to sign Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic. The Lilywhites are apparently in ‘pole position’ to sign the Croat.
Perisic seems to be ageing like fine wine and he has been delivering crucial performances in Serie A despite his growing age. The Croatian star secured the Serie A title for Inter Milan last season and gave a consistent spell in this campaign as well. Before signing for Inter, he spent one season at Bayern on loan where he won the UEFA Champions League.
With Perisic’s current contract with Inter Milan set to end in the summer, the Croatian could be eyeing his next challenge. Even though the Nerazzurri are interested in keeping him, his demands of a three-year deal worth £100,000-a-week have made it harder for the Italian club to renew his contract.
Amid such a situation, Tottenham, Chelsea and Juventus are interested in securing his services. However, it is now believed that Antonio Conte’s team has the advantage over other rivals and It is highly likely that the Croatian would accept Tottenham’s proposed two-year contract.
How can Ivan Perisic help Tottenham?
Playing mostly down the left flank, Perisic can be deployed as a left wing-back, as he was under Conte during their time together in Milan. The 33-year-old has scored 10 goals and given 9 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions this season.
Conte currently has Ryan Sessegnon and Sergio Reguilon to play down that wing, while Ben Davies, a left-back by trade, has been used as a third centre-back. Adding Perisic to the mix certainly makes us more potent down that side.
Perisic, with his abundant experience, can be a useful asset to deploy as a winger or as a wing-back. He knows how to maintain composure in big games and could become the difference-maker in the team.

As he is getting older, a two-year deal seems to be advantageous for Tottenham and they would have the option to end ties with him if his performance drops without the compulsion of keeping him on board for a long time.
A player who has worked under our Italian boss in the past, it would perhaps be a nice change for Conte to get a familiar face with him in the dressing room. It now remains to be seen if and when this deal is completed, after which Spurs can focus on strengthening other positions.
