Barcelona enter transfer race to sign Stuttgart star Borna Sosa amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest

According to Christian Falk of Sport Bild via Football Transfers on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Barcelona have joined the race to facilitate a transfer for Stuttgart star Borna Sosa amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur. He has been one of the few players who played a key role in helping his side survive the relegation battle last term.

Barca have expressed their interest in signing Sosa ahead of the summer transfer window. They are eager to bring in a left-back, considering how Jordi Alba is the only option in their squad right now. Alba is in the latter stages of his playing career as well, which means he cannot play week in and week out moving forward.

As such, Tottenham would need to be wary of the Catalans’ interest, looking at their need to bring in a left-back. However, the English club would also need to deal with Chelsea as they have also registered their intentions to get their hands on the Croatian international this summer.

Can Spurs beat off the competition?

The 24-year-old earned rave reviews for his performances last season despite the German club struggling at the tail end of the Bundesliga table. His ability to pick out his teammates through crosses is particularly his most highlighted skill set, which certainly goes in line with his attacking style of play.

Sergio Reguilon’s future is in uncertain waters right now, which means that he could leave N17 this summer. While we did sign Ivan Perisic recently, who could play as a left wing-back, he may probably be moved to the left-wing with Steven Bergwijn being targeted by Ajax at this moment.

That means Sosa could have a spot in our squad with Ryan Sessegnon’s fitness woes still creating doubts over his future availability. In such a case, our pursuit to sign the Bundesliga ace is certainly understandable under the current circumstances.

However, with the Blaugrana side now posing new competition for the North London side, the latter must be on their toes at all times to prevent getting leapfrogged in this transfer race. The Blues also would cause issues for us as they could use additions in the left wing-back role as well.

It remains to be seen if Antonio Conte’s side will succeed in their attempt to sign Sosa or not ahead of the next term. If Fabio Paratici is actively targeting the defender, he must first refer the matter to Conte and approve his signing before deciding to sign him.
