AC Milan hold a meeting with the agent of Tottenham Hotspur’s Japhet Tanganga
AC Milan are looking to bring Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga to the San Siro this summer. The Serie A giants have supposedly met with the 23-year-old’s agent possibly to discuss a potential move, according to Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t football.london).
The London-born defender joined Spurs’ academy at the age of 10 and has since come up the youth ranks to make a place for himself in the Lilywhites’ squad. After making his debut in 2019, the centre-back has found a place in the first XI difficult to come by.
Injuries have been a factor in Tanganga missing out on football at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. In his three years, the 23-year-old has missed 43 games for the club. The centre-back has shown glimpses of quality, but being sidelined hasn’t helped him remain consistent.
All in all, 43 appearances is a decent output for a player finding it hard to remain fit at the club. As soon as it seems like the defender is getting a run in the team, injuries have halted his progress.
Last season, the player wasn’t a constant fixture in the starting line for either Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte. The versatile defender was still getting to play, either as a right-back or in a central role. But a knee injury in the middle of the season kept him out of the team for the campaign.
Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies seemed to be ahead in the pecking order for the gaffer last season. And this summer’s new additions add further competition for a place on the side.
Now Tanganga seems to have the option of moving to Italy. Serie A is known for being a robust league with great defensive sides. It’s believed defenders can learn a lot and develop their trade in the league.
