Leicester City are interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs, including Leicester City, according to journalist Sami Mokbel via Last Word on Spurs podcast (h/t football.london).
“I definitely know that there are other Premier League clubs interested in Harry Winks, one certainly being Leicester.”
The 26-year-old Spurs academy graduate was being scouted by clubs like Everton and Leeds but the interest seems to have died down. With first-team football a rarity for him now in the North London side, there is talk of a move away occurring this summer.
“I think Leicester have certainly got a keen interest in Harry Winks. He’s a Brendan Rodgers-type of player. He’s comfortable on the ball, comfortable in possession, and can find a pass.”
After establishing himself in the squad in the 2018/19 season and then starting the Champions League final against Liverpool, which the North London side lost, Winks went from strength to strength in the side.
The 2019/20 season saw him play over 3000 minutes for the club in all competitions. But the campaign was a disappointing one for Tottenham. Long-time manager Mauricio Pochettino was sacked after a disappointing start to the season. We crashed out of the Champions League last-16 and finished sixth in the league.
Since then, the midfielder has seen his stock dwindle at the North London club. Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason, Nuno Espirito Santo and now Antonio Conte, all have preferred other options over Winks.
With the Italian in charge, the 25-year-old has only seen sporadic time on the pitch. With the arrival of Rodrigo Bentancur in January, the Englishman has lost the little time he was being given on the pitch. The Uruguayan has come into the team and started 16 of the 17 games he’s featured in.
Conte’s side have made further additions to the team with the arrival of Yves Bissouma. The Malian has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the league over the last couple of seasons. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is another name that has remained everpresent in the XI.
Oliver Skipp and Pepe Matar Sarr are young prospects in the squad who fans will hope are used in games to develop further. And this leaves Winks in a tight spot.

With his last England cap coming nearly two years back when the 25-year-old played regularly in North London, first-team action is something that is required to get back in Gareth Southgate’s good graces.
