Bournemouth are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Japhet Tanganga
Bournemouth are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur for Japhet Tanganga, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required), and the Cherries are looking at solutions to land the 23-year-old.
Spurs and Bournemouth haven’t yet figured out what type of deal will be pursued, if any, for the academy graduate. A loan or a permanent move are both possibilities at the moment.
Tanganga is also attracting interest from top clubs in Italy, with Serie A champions AC Milan and Napoli both interested in the player. It remains to be seen where the player decides to ply his trade next season.
After breaking onto the scene in the 2019/20 season, the 23-year-old has shown glimpses of his talent. The defender’s versatility is a strength as he has the ability to play out wide or in the centre of defence.
But injuries have left a dark spot on Tanganga’s development in the team. The 23-year-old seems to pick up an injury whenever he’s on a good run in the team. The academy graduate has been unlucky in that regard.
Last season was a mixed bag for Tanganga, featuring in 19 games. Being in and out of the squad under Nuno Espirito Santo, his fortunes remained the same under Antonio Conte.
Our new boss has preferred a back three. Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez seem to be ahead of the versatile defender in the hierarchy for Conte.
The 23-year-old did manage to get in the Italian’s side on occasions, but an injury in January ended his season. With the competition for places, a move away feels like an opportunity to get regular game time.
