Interview: New Tottenham Hotspur signing Clement Lenglet has his say regarding Antonio Conte and Spurs
Speaking to the Tottenham Hotspur official channel, new signing Clement Lenglet has said that it’s a beautiful moment to work with coach Antonio Conte. Lenglet joined Spurs on a season-long loan, with no option to buy.
Tottenham tried to secure a loan deal for the French centre-back twelve months ago, but that deal never came to a realisation. Now, the 27-year-old is finally at Spurs and is excited to work under Antonio Conte.
“It’s a ‘Mister’ who has won a lot of trophies, he has a lot of experience and for me, it’s a beautiful moment to work with the ‘Mister’ and to learn all he knows about football.”

Lenglet had struggled to gain game time in the last couple of seasons at Barcelona. He could only manage to start seven times in the La Liga last season, having fallen out of favour under Xavi.
Now that seems to be in the past, as Lenglet prepares himself for the new challenge ahead. He wants to help the team win trophies and is hungry for it.
A good move?
The Frenchman becomes Conte’s fifth signing of the summer, as the Italian continues to rebuild the squad ahead of next season. He is expected to compete with Eric Dier or Davinson Sanchez for a place in the first team.
Lenglet joined Barcelona from Sevilla in 2018 and has one league title with the Catalonian club. A left-footed centre-back, he will most likely play on the left side of the back in Conte’s 3-4-3. The 27-years-old has amassed huge playing experience, despite limited playing time last season, and could be a phenomenal addition to the side.
Conte will hope that he stays true to his words and performs well on the pitch. Spurs fans will hope that he too can have an immediate impact on the team like Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.
“I want to win a lot of games to be happy, to fight at the height of the classification. It’s a dream, I would like to win a trophy here in Tottenham.”
Apart from all this, he will also help in adding depth to the squad, as Conte prepares for the new season with hopes that he can challenge for the league title and win some silverware.
It will be interesting to see how Conte uses the Frenchman next season. Lenglet will hope to gain some playing time under him, hoping he can make the French squad for the Qatar World Cup in November.

But only a loan signing with no option to buy, it would be dangerous for our fans to get too attached to him. That is the problem with loan signings- even a strong individual season leaves a bitter taste in the mouth because then, that becomes a position the team would have to fill once the player returns to his parent club.
