Transfer News: Sevilla want to re-sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon

According to the Daily Mail, Sevilla are looking into the idea of re-signing out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon, who spent the 2019–20 season on loan at the Nervionenses from Real Madrid before transferring to north London.

Antonio Conte left out Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon from the team’s preseason trip to South Korea, which could indicate that the manager doesn’t see the Spaniard in his plans for next season.

It is the Italian coach’s most overt declaration yet that he will make changes to this Spurs team down that left-hand side in his quest to turn the North London team into a title-winning squad.

Reguilon left Real Madrid for Tottenham in the summer of 2020 in a £32million move, and in all fairness, he has had a decent time at N17. Sevilla, a powerhouse in La Liga, may offer the Spanish international a more prominent role in the first XI as they are now interested in re-signing him.

Reguilon has played 67 games for the club in two seasons, contributing to nine goals and scoring two himself. The full-back represented Tottenham in 31 games during the just-finished season, although a groin ailment kept him out for the latter half.

The ultimate nail in the coffin for ‘Reggy’ appears to be Conte’s signing of Ivan Perisic and his apparent admiration for Ryan Sessegnon. The Englishman has started games for us in Reguilon’s absence.

Sevilla are on the lookout for a new left-back as Argentinean international Marcos Acuna has a history of injuries, while Ludwig Augustinsson, who is currently in the process of moving to Aston Villa, has struggled to make an impact during his first season with the team.

It remains to be seen if the La Liga squad makes a push to sign the Spaniard in the upcoming days. It wouldn’t be a stretch to imply that they might eventually come to an agreement given their need for a full-back acquisition.

However, we must wait and watch if Julen Lopetegui’s team will meet the present demands of our team this summer. The supporters would like to see that take place because a cash windfall of that magnitude would increase the club’s transfer budget this summer, allowing for the addition of more players.

Reguilon, mind you, is still a quality player who has a lot of years ahead of him. He is still contracted to Spurs and we would be wise to ask for as much cash as we think is warranted from potential suitors.
