Transfer News: Antonio Conte hands Bryan Gil a lifeline by taking pre-season tour decision
According to Express, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte seems to have handed struggling Spanish winger Bryan Gil yet another lifeline by calling him up to the pre-season tour to South Korea.
A highly-rated prospect, Gil has failed to convince during his time at N17, but to be fair he found opportunities come by few and far. He was loaned out to Valencia to rediscover his best form but it did not pan out as expected.
Gil joined Spurs from Sevilla in 2021 in a deal that saw Erik Lamela go the other way. Huge things were expected of the Spanish starlet but his adaptation to English football has not started on the sweetest note.
A former Sevilla man, Gil broke through during his time out on loan at Eibar making Spanish football take notice of him. He has been touted as the next big thing in Spain for quite some time now.
In total for both Spurs and Valencia, Gil has played 37 times this season failing to score and providing just two assists across all competitions. Although these numbers are not impressive, we must not forget that Gil is just 21 years old.
Anyone who has seen Gil play during his time at Eibar will know how much talent the Spanish wonderkid possesses. Even the best players struggle to adapt to English football in their first season and Tottenham must not rush with the 21-year-old.
It is nice for Antonio Conte not to bail on the youngster so soon and taking him along with the team to the pre-season will certainly instil some confidence in the youngster and he will feel like he belongs here.
There can be a place for him in this team but he has to show that he can really hack it amongst the big boys in England. He was signed from La Liga because he showed talent- we need to see some of it now in a Spurs shirt.
