Transfer News: Villarreal in two minds about spending £30million for Giovani Lo Celso
According to Spanish outlet Marca (h/t Football. London), Villarreal want to sign talented Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso but might not want to spend £30million for their former loanee.
Spurs are keen on offloading players that Antonio Conte does not count on and Giovani Lo Celso belongs to that list. The Argentinian impressed out on loan at Villarreal last season but he does not seem to have a future here.
Lo Celso joined Spurs from Real Betis in 2019 initially on loan and impressed enough for the Lilywhites to make the deal permanent a year later. However, things have not panned out as expected with the Argentinian struggling to impress here.
After realising that things were not working at N17, Lo Celso chose to go out on loan to resurrect his faltering career. To his credit, he had a great season with the Yellow Submarines under Unai Emery.
In 40 games for Villarreal last season, the 26-year-old scored two goals and provided three assists across all competitions. Lo Celso is also a regular in the National team winning 39 caps to date.
Having signed Yves Bissouma to an already impressive midfield, Lo Celso does not have a place in Antonio Conte’s midfield. Tottenham have moved past him and it is best that the player finds a new club very soon.
There is absolutely no doubt that Lo Celso is a very talented player and he will definitely have interest from many clubs. Even Villarreal are interested in bringing back the player but the valuation could be an issue.

If Tottenham choose to demand the £30million they spent to sign Lo Celso in the first place, it could turn out to be an issue for the buying clubs, especially Villarreal. Regardless, it might not be difficult to sell a player of Lo Celso’s quality and it’s only a matter of time.
