Ivan Perisic set to miss Sevilla tie, will be involved in training sessions when Tottenham return to London

Ivan Persic is set to miss the final pre-season friendly in South Korea as Tottenham Hotspur face Sevilla. The Croatian has been struggling with a calf injury.

Spurs signed the 33-year-old on a free transfer after Perisic left Inter Milan at the end of his contract. The winger had spent six seasons with the Nerazzurri before coming to North London.

Conte gave an update on the Croatian’s injury, via football.london, and said “we have to go step by step” in his recovery. The 33-year-old has started to work with the team but is still being sidelined for now.

“Perisic started to work with us, but with Ivan we have to go step by step because the injury was a serious injury but it’s good that he started to work with us.”

In 252 appearances for the Serie A side, Perisic scored 55 goals and provided 49 assists and has won several trophies. The talented winger has also spent time on loan with Bayern Munich, winning the Champions League.

The Croatian comes into a team that has not won a title in 14 years. But the 33-year-old brings with him the experience of playing for the biggest teams in the world and winning silverware.

Conte gave an update on Perisic’s return from injury. The Croatian will be available and ready to participate in training sessions when the team returns to London.

“I think that when we get back to London with us he can be involved with us in regular training sessions.”

At Inter, Perisic has played under our Italian manager and been a vital member of the scudetto-winning team. Having usually played up front as a winger on the left throughout his career, Conte played the 33-year-old in a deeper role.

Tottenham has an abundance of talent in their attacking line. Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, among others, give the side enough depth and quality.

It remains to be seen where the Croatian operates next season under Conte’s system. But it’s essential for Perisic to come back from his injury and settle into the squad. Only then can the 33-year-old help the side on their journey for titles.
