Rio Ferdinand: Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane will win the Golden Boot this season
According to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane will be the one that takes the Premier League Golden Boot home this season.
The England international has been amongst the goals ever since he made his breakthrough under Mauricio Pochettino all those years ago. He has consistently been involved in the race for the Golden Boot for the past several years.
That is evident in the fact that Kane has scored 248 goals for the club in 387 games across all competitions. This summer has been all about Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez and Erling Haaland joining Manchester City.
But for Ferdinand, it is Kane who will be crowned the king of goals once this season comes to a halt. He told William Hill (h/t Football.London):
“Harry Kane will win the Golden Boot this season. I think the Conte effect and how fit he gets his teams will help him. Harry Kane normally never scores in August but I think he might change that this season with the impact of a full pre-season under Conte.”
Ferdinand then went on to back Kane to win the Premier League Player of the Season as well. Last year, the PFA POTY award was won by Mohamed Salah, while the Golden Boost was shared between Salah and Kane’s teammate, Son Heung-min, with 23 goals each.
“I think Kane will win Player of the Year this season too. I think for goals and assists, he’ll be right up there in those charts. And I think that Spurs will be closer to Manchester City and Liverpool this year, and he’ll have a big impact in that sense.”
Kane remains a potent goal-scorer and in what comes as bad news for defenders, has added a new element to his game. Those who have seen Kane play in recent years would have noticed how the Englishman has started to drop deep at times to create chances for others.
This doesn’t mean he won’t get into attacking positions, but his selflessness allows him to make sure the team always comes first. Just take for example the 2020/21 season, where Kane won the Golden Boot and the Playmaker Award – but shockingly, not the PL Player of the Season gong.

Kane started the 4-1 win against Southampton last weekend but did not register a goal or an assist. He isn’t really known for scoring in the opening month of the season but when he gets going, he is hard to stop.
