Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel sent-off after the final whistle

A London derby that had all the drama was capped off after both coaches Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel were shown a red card after the final whistle.

The two managers had already been involved in a brawl when Pierre Emile Hojbjerg equalised for Tottenham Hotspur. Tuchel believed that Kai Havertz had been fouled by Rodrigo Bentancur, but the referee begged to differ.

They were both shown yellow cards after that fight. But then they were again involved in a new one, right after the final whistle. Tuchel appeared angry at Conte for refusing to see him eye to eye and shake hands.

This led to another war of words between the two, with both being separated by their assistants. The referee had seen enough and showed a red card to both the managers.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Conte refused to talk about his clash with Tuchel. Rather he kept it very professional on his end.

“My opinion is it’s better to talk about the game. It was a difficult game for both teams and we try in every game to be competitive. I don’t want to comment on the [Tuchel] situation, this is not the most important thing. If there’s a problem, it’s between me and him.”

Tottenham came back from behind to take a point away at Stamford Bridge. Harry Kane scored from the corner in injury time to split the bragging rights between the two clubs. However, Spurs were the underperformers as compared to Chelsea.

A ground that has been problematic for Spurs to take a point from, a draw today could be the first step towards a more positive season. Despite an underwhelming first half, Tottenham came out much better in the second half of the game.

The clashes between the coaches invoked memories of previous other clashes. The fans from both sides were equally vocal as their players and coach. An entertaining derby, fans will hope for the same when the two teams meet again in the reverse fixture on February 23, 2023.

More Tottenham News:

Spurs should take this as a positive result and build on it to take maximum points from their next game against Wolverhampton Wanderers this Saturday. But with Conte suspended, it remains to be seen if his absence is missed on the touchline.
