Real Madrid target Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as a replacement for Casemiro
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg has attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required). The La Liga outfit are targeting the 27-year-old as a replacement for Manchester United-bound Casemiro.
Hojbjerg is highly thought of by Carlo Ancelloti, who tried to sign the Denmark international during his stint in the Everton dugout. Now, with the Brazilian departing Los Blancos, the 27-year-old is an option for the Italian manager.
The former Southampton star made his way to the N17 in the summer of 2020. Hojbjerg slotted straight into Jose Mourinho’s XI and made an immediate impact. The 27-year-old solidified his position in the team with his performances.
Under Nuno Espirito Santo, the midfielder continued to play a vital role for Spurs. The Portuguese manager was replaced by Antonio Conte. However, Hojbjerg still remained a regular in the side.
Hojbjerg has been solid for Spurs
The Denmark international has been the most consistent of performers for the North London side since his arrival from the Saints. He’s become a fan favourite at this point.
Hojbjerg has started the 2022/23 campaign on the front foot as well. The Danish started the first game of the new season and was solid against his former club Southampton in the 4-1 win.
The 27-year-old was in Conte’s XI for the Chelsea game as well. Tottenham visited Stamford Bridge and earned a point in the 2-2 draw. Hojbjerg scored a goal at an important period of the game.
Rodrigo Bentancur was signed from Juventus in January. The Uruguayan has partnered with Hojbjerg the most since then. However, Tottenham have made some decent additions to the squad. Conte can now also count on Yves Bissouma.
