Antonio Conte feels Tottenham Hotspur are competitive enough to win the Champions League
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has suggested that his side are competitive enough to win the Champions League. However, the players need to be “dreamers” in order to achieve that goal.
The summer has seen Spurs go on a spending spree, making some brilliant additions to the squad. Conte has evidently been provided with a stronger squad than the one he had in the previous campaign.
Speaking via the Express, the Italian has no doubts about the quality of the players in the North London side. Conte is of the opinion that his team can conquer Europe.
“My players are capable of being competitive enough to win something – even Europe.
In the previous campaign, Tottenham struggled as Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed manager. The club decided to part ways with the Portuguese and appoint Conte as head coach.
The Italian’s arrival was instrumental in Spurs making it to the top four last season. Conte has brought energy to the dugout. We won 10 of our final 14 games in the Premier League to pip Arsenal to a UCL spot.
However, the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager knows that his players need to trust themselves in order to achieve silverware. Conte feels his side need to believe and incorporate a winning mentality to be successful.
“But you know very well and are not stupid. You understand the situation. For sure, we have to be dreamers and to work a lot to be something special. To create something around us and have a great season.
“We need our minds, when we go to win, to ask ourselves for much more, much more, much more. This is the only way to push ourselves, create the right atmosphere and become a winner and get that into our mind.”
The 2022/23 campaign has gone off to an impressive start. Tottenham started the new season with an emphatic win over Southampton. While we haven’t been our best in other fixtures, Spurs have fought till the very end of the games to remain unbeaten.
Conte has mostly trusted players who featured heavily in the previous campaign to start the season. While the North London side have made some quality additions this summer, most of them have come off the bench to make an impact.
