RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol close to Chelsea move amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Tottenham Hotspur have been interested in RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol. However, Chelsea are closing in on signing the Croatian from the Bundesliga outfit, according to The Daily Mail.
The Blues are willing to pay £75 million for the 20-year-old and loan him back to Leipzig for the season. Thus, Gvardiol will make his way to London next summer.
Manchester City and Tottenham are also in the race for the coveted centre-back. However, it seems Chelsea are going to be the club successful in getting a deal for the 20-year-old over the line.
The North London side currently have a number of players in the centre-back role for Antonio Conte to choose from. Eric Dier and Ben Davies have been regulars in the Italian manager’s backline since his arrival. The England international has been our leader at the back.
The Welshman has been converted from a full-back into a left-centre-back. Davies has done brilliantly and, as such, has cemented his place in the XI.
Cristian Romero was brought to the club from Atalanta BC last summer. The Argentine has had an immediate impact in the team. The 24-year-old has been one of our best defenders. However, injuries have hampered his career somewhat up until now.
Conte can also count on Clement Lenglet, who was signed on loan from Barcelona. The left-footed centre-back brings experience to the side, having played against the best teams around Europe in the biggest competition.
Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga are currently at the club as well. The two are decent backups to have in case our first-team defenders are unavailable.
