Pascal Chimbonda sends Bryan Gil message after Tottenham Hotspur draw to Sporting CP

Former Spurs right-back and 2006 FIFA World Cup finalist with France, Pascal Chimbonda, has told Tottenham Hotspur that Bryan Gil deserves a chance to play more often for the club after the 1-1 draw against Sporting CP.

One of the few silver linings for Spurs from their controversial draw against Sporting was the Spaniard’s impact from the bench. Gil hasn’t played a lot this campaign.

In fact, the former Sevilla winger only has three appearances this season – all off the bench in the UEFA Champions League. He came on for us in the game against the Primeira Liga outfit with the score at 1-0 and 19 minutes left in the game.

As seen above in the photo taken from Instagram, Chimbonda, who was part of the Spurs team that won the EFL Cup in the 2007-08 campaign, wants Gil to be playing more often. His substitution made Tottenham way more dangerous.

He was taking Sporting defenders on with confidence and won us the corner that culminated in Rodrigo Bentancur’s 80th-minute equaliser. Gil has been available all this while during Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski’s absence due to injuries.

Instead of playing a front three during this time, manager Antonio Conte has often played a 3-5-2 formation. He reverted to a 3-4-2-1 yesterday (October 26) with Lucas Moura fit enough to start.

However, perhaps this formation could have been kept with Gil being trusted more often. It is also evident that the young Spaniard can at times struggle with the physical aspect of English football due to his elfin frame.

But he has shown several times that he is a skilled winger who doesn’t get afraid when taking on defenders in 1v1 situations. Hopefully, he makes his first Premier League appearance this campaign when we take on Bournemouth on Saturday at the Vitality Stadium.
