Transfer News: Pau Torres and Alessandro Bastoni are ‘high’ on Tottenham Hotspur wishlist ahead of the January window
According to Give Me Sport (h/t Football. London), Villareal centre-back Pau Torres and Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni are ‘high’ on Tottenham Hotspur’s wishlist ahead of the January transfer window.
The duo were linked with the north London club in the summer too, but nothing came of it. Now, it is believed Antonio Conte could look to bring in one if not both, centre-back in the winter.
Both defenders see their current contracts expire in 2024 with Conte looking to add more depth to his defence for the second half of the season.
Torres has been a regular for the Yellow Submarines this season. The 25-year-old has played in 16 games so far in all competitions and is likely to feature for Spain at the World Cup in Qatar.
As for Bastoni, the Italian too has been a regular for his side. The 23-year-old has played in 16 games so far in all competitions, registering three assists in the process. He was also part of Conte’s squad that won the Scudetto in the 2020/21 season.
Spurs have some good names at the back this season including Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies. However, recent injuries to Dier and Romero have shown that the replacements have not been able to live up to the standard set by them.
So getting an experienced defender for the second half of the season would make sense. But both the players are first-team players for their respective teams and that may not be the case at Tottenham.
