Rodrigo Bentancur, Eric Dier, and Harry Kane among 12 Tottenham Hotspur stars set to be at the 2022 FIFA World Cup
Rodrigo Bentancur, Eric Dier, and Harry Kane will be three among 12 Tottenham Hotspur players who will travel to Qatar for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as confirmed by the official Spurs website.
It’s always an honour when one is called up to the senior team for playing in the biggest competition in world football. For Spurs to have 12 such players is a monumental achievement in itself.
Harry Kane and Eric Dier are perhaps two stars who will be looking to start each game for the Three Lions. England will look to win just their second FIFA World Cup in history but must first navigate through a group with Iran, Wales, and the United States of America.
Talking of favourites to win the FIFA World Cup, Cristiano Romero‘s Argentina will be right in the mix. Cuti is expected to start at the heart of La Albiceleste‘s defence if he is fully fit. World Cup winners in 1978 and 1986, Argentina will be desperate to add a third to their tally.
Spurs well represented in Qatar
Hugo Lloris‘ France will enter the tournament as the defending champions. For many, they are the team to beat in Qatar. The Spurs goalkeeper started the final in the 2018 edition and will hope to repeat that feat in a month’s time.
The former Olympique Lyonnais goalkeeper will remember Ivan Perisic from that final. The Croatia international scored in the final past Lloris but couldn’t help his team win the whole thing. He makes the cut for them again this campaign after a solid season at N17 so far.
Next in the list is Son Heung-min. The South Korea international injured his eye socket in the 2-1 UEFA Champions League win against Olympique de Marseille but is fit and named in his country’s final squad for the competition.
Rodrigo Bentancur‘s Uruguay will be one of the dark horses in the competition. The ex-Juventus man is expected to partner Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde in their midfield.
Richarlison recovered from an injury scare in our 2-0 win against Everton and is all set to play for Brazil. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is expected to be one of Denmark’s star players in the group while Ben Davies and Spurs loanee Joe Rodon will hope their Wales side can spring a surprise and qualify from their bracket.
Pape Matar Sarr, meanwhile, is our only representative for an African nation. Hopefully, he makes us proud and help his team become the first African country to reach the World Cup final.
