Ex-Tottenham star says Ben Davies, Eric Dier, and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg have improved under Antonio Conte
According to former Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper, manager Antonio Conte has improved Ben Davies, Eric Dier, and Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg since becoming the manager of Spurs in November 2021.
The former England international was asked his opinions on the Denmark international, to which he exclusively told Football Insider:
“Hojbjerg has surprised me this season. There was a point where it looked like he would be on his way but now he is one of the first names on the team sheet. Under Conte, he has reached another level.”
This is perhaps something all Spurs fans may not agree with. Ever since Hojbjerg arrived from Southampton in the summer of 2020, he has been a regular fixture in our team no matter who the manager is.
However, he has added a new streak to his game. This season, Hojbjerg has been seen getting forward and helping his teammates in attack – a job not really associated with defensive midfielders.
Robinson says Conte has improved Hojbjerg, along with Dier and Davies. The Englishman was seeing a fair bit of playing time before Conte as well, but under the Italian, he has become the irreplaceable leader of Tottenham’s backline.
“Yes, Conte is defensive but he has improved players. That is undeniable. Hojbjerg has improved, Ben Davies has improved and so has Eric Dier. “I think the midfield has been a very strong area for Spurs this season. It’s defensively where they have been caught out.”
He has played in all 22 of our matches this campaign across competitions and the 28-year-old is going to Qatar with England for the 2022 FIFA World Cup courtesy of his good form. Davies was clearly struggling to cement a place in our defence before Conte.

Sergio Reguilon was seen as the team’s first-choice defender in that position. Conte came in, and Davies has been one of our most important players – playing as a left-sided centre-back, which has seen us adjust well to Conte’s three-at-the-back system.
