Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris told he is not at the same level as Alisson or Ederson

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has criticised Hugo Lloris for his performances this season and stated that he is not at the same level as Alisson Becker, Ederson Moraes, or Manuel Neuer.

Lloris has been at Spurs since moving to the club from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2012. Since then, he has been an ever-present between the sticks for every manager who has been at the club.

Robinson, however, believes Lloris has always had that odd mistake in him, and those are increasing in number this campaign. He exclusively told Stadium Astro:

“He has always had that mistake if you like, there’s never been that air of confidence around him. He seems to be very quiet. He makes the odd mistake but now there’s more and more coming in.”

Robinson also stated that Lloris is coming to the end of his career at Spurs, which isn’t wrong. He is 35 years old and is in the final year and a half of his contract at N17 (Transfermarkt). The former England international continued:

“You can’t underestimate what he’s done in his career. Is he in the top, world bracket of goalkeepers? The Neuers, Edersons, Alissons. He sits underneath it for me.”

Alisson has been very good for Liverpool and is one of the reasons why they have won the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League in the past three years. Ederson has been equally influential for Manchester City in their four Premier League title wins under manager Pep Guardiola.

Neuer, meanwhile, is a living legend at Bayern Munich and Germany. These three goalkeepers are brilliant with the ball at their feet and have immaculate ball-distribution skills – something that Lloris evidently struggles with.

But that is something we as Spurs fans have known for a while. The Frenchman is a traditional shot-stopper with impressive sweeping skills. Lloris has divided opinion among fans and neutrals alike in the past several years but he has been a strong presence for us between the sticks for a decade.

There is no question, however, that we need someone to replace him in the long run. Robinson suggested Illan Meslier as a player who could challenge him for the France national team spot, and the Leeds United star is also a player that has been linked with us in recent months.
