Antonio Conte provides an update on the future of Clement Lenglet at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has provided an update on the future of Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet at the north London club. The 27-year-old is currently on a season-long loan deal at the club.

Lenglet has impressed so far for us this season, featuring in 15 games in all competitions and has scored one goal and registered another two assists in the process.

The French centre-back featured in the 2-2 draw against Brentford earlier this week, where the defender was one of our best players. The former Sevilla man started the game and played full 90 minutes, notching up one assist in the process.

Now, Conte as quoted in the Evening Standard, was asked if the 27-year-old could stay at the beyond the summer of next year and this is what the manager had to say:

“I don’t know the situation about his contract. I can make an evaluation about what I see in training and on the pitch, then I can give my opinion to the club. But you know, the club has the last decision.”

It would make sense to keep the defender at the club. So far, the 27-year-old is the only one who has been able to provide competition to the likes of Eric Dier and Ben Davies for a place in the starting eleven.

Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga have failed to impress the boss so far and their lack of playing time indicates that. The former also came under heavy criticism for his performance against the Bees earlier this week.

Also, the club has found success in making loan deals permanent with Cristian Romero as the best example that comes to mind. The Argentine has established himself as one of the undisputed choices under Conte at the back.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

While there is still time till next May, it will be wise for the club to start laying the foundations to make his deal loan stay permanent. The 27-year-old will also be in contention to start against Aston Villa on Sunday (January 1).
