AS Roma drop Tottenham Hotspur target Nicolo Zaniolo from matchday squad for Spezia clash

AS Roma will travel to Liguria on Sunday to take on Spezia without Tottenham Hotspur target Nicolo Zaniolo in their matchday squad, as per Sky Sports (h/t Evening Standard).

I Giallorossi are open to selling the 23-year-old playmaker in the January transfer window, with Spurs keen on signing the player. It is said that an offer of 40million Euros could do the trick for any potential suitor.

Spurs apparently had an opening bid rejected for the player recently. It remains to be seen if they will return with another offer.

Fans will hope that they do. We can use a player like Zaniolo – who has enough experience at the very top level and is versatile to play anywhere across the frontline and as a No. 10 – a profile that we lack currently.

We must go all out for Zaniolo

Moreover, with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt), hopefully, Roma are willing to negotiate a more reasonable price that suits Spurs even more. There isn’t long left in the window.

Being dropped from the matchday squad could, of course, mean injury or some other personal issue related to the player. However, no such reason has been seemingly given.

Antonio Conte asks Tottenham Hotspur to make second bid for Nicolo Zaniolo.
Italy international Nicolo Zaniolo has played 17 games this season for AS Roma.

Hopefully, the Lilywhites are making progress behind the scenes and are on hand to seal his signing. He is still young and can become a beast under the guidance of a world-class manager like Antonio Conte.

Moreover, we need reinforcements – players that can make a real impact from the get-go and from the bench. The losses against Arsenal and Manchester City this month showed that there is still huge work for us to do if we want to be amongst the best.

One way to bridge that gap is through quality signings.
