Tottenham Hotspur to battle Chelsea and Arsenal for Piero Hincapie
Tottenham Hotspur ‘will try again’ for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Piero Hincapie this summer amidst interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, as per BILD journalist Christian Falk in his exclusive CaughtOffside column.
Spurs apparently failed with a bid of 40million Euros last summer but that hasn’t stopped them from pursuing the Ecuador international. His valuation would have naturally gone up in recent months.
He started all three of his nation’s group-stage games at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Just 21, the left-footed centre-back is only expected to get better with time.
Here is what Falk had to say regarding Spurs’ interest in the Leverkusen defender:
“Tottenham would be looking at a summer deal for Piero Hincapié. They did knock on Bayer Leverkusen’s door in the prior summer window but they want a lot of money for him.”
“I heard that even a €40m offer last summer wasn’t enough. I’m hearing that Tottenham will try again but that Chelsea and Arsenal are also keeping an eye on the player.”
We can use a left-footed centre-back who can naturally slot into our backline. Hincapie can play the role currently occupied by Ben Davies, who is a natural left-back.
One would have to be living under a rock if they are still unaware of Chelsea’s spending under Todd Boehly and co., especially on young players – those of Hincapie’s age profile. Given Kalidou Koulibaly and Cesar Azpiliceuta’s age, a need for a centre-back can arise at SW6.
Manager Mikel Arteta is mastering a revolution at Arsenal along similar lines by trusting youngsters. Both of them can pose a real competition to us in our race for Hincapie.

What we must do is be ready with the money, sell a good project to the player, secure a top-four spot, and offer him a first-team spot as soon as he comes in. Otherwise, there won’t be many upsides for him to come to N17.
