Micky van de Ven will have a medical done on Monday ahead of his move to Tottenham Hotspur
As per a tweet from Fabrizio Romano, Dutch defender Micky van de Ven will travel to London to get undergo a medical ahead of his move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Medical tests are booked for Monday and a five-year contract will be signed by the player early next week if all things go well.
A couple of days ago, The Athletic (subscription required) revealed that Spurs were on the verge to strike an agreement with Wolfsburg for van de Ven. Transfer fee in the region of €50m including add-ons was mentioned.
The Netherlands U21 centre-back was a subject of interest for Liverpool earlier in the window. He was open to a move to Anfield too but it seems as if nothing happened there. It also shows how big a coup this is for Spurs to sign him.
The 22-year-old is a left-footed defender who can either play in a back four or as a wide centre-back in a back three system.
Van de Ven possesses a rapid recovery pace and is aerially strong. His passing range is of a great level and he can bring a lot of energy and front-foot defending in the last line for Tottenham.
If Ange Postecoglou sticks with the 4-2-3-1 system, the Dutchman could partner Cristian Romero at the heart of the back line. It would be a decent combination of pace, tenacity, aerial prowess and passing range between the two.
With the actual season starting next weekend, there would be a case for van de Ven not featuring in the first game against Brentford.
