Tottenham are ready to make a move for West Ham target and Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse
According to Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur are aiming for a transfer hijack by signing West Ham United target and Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
A few days ago, The Athletic (subscription required) revealed that West Ham will come up with a fresh approach for the Saints despite getting their latest offer worth around £30m rejected by the Championship side.
We all know the Hammers are in the market for a central midfielder after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal earlier this summer. The Conference League champions are yet to sign a single player in this window so far.
Tottenham, on the other hand, have watched Ward-Prowse several times last season and the club see him as an ideal addition to the midfield.
We could see midfielders departing the club in the coming days to potentially open a slot for Ward-Prowse’s signing. Tanguy Ndombele remains in talks with Turkish side Galatasaray for a possible transfer, while Giovani Lo Celso could sign for Aston Villa to reunite with Unai Emery.
We have already seen Harry Winks sign for Leicester City around the time when James Maddison was heading the other way.
Ward-Prowse played Southampton’s opening Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday and did well. The Saints are under no pressure to sell their captain on a cheap though. They want a bid in the region of £40m.
The 28-year-old England international is a fantastic player who can operate in a midfield pivot and offer a lot of quality in possession. We all know about the danger he possesses from set-piece situations.

The 28-year-old has an excellent passing range and is good at the defensive reading of the game as well. He could form a good partnership with someone like Rodrigo Bentancur or Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
