Alejo Veliz hints at Giovani Lo Celso stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso could be staying at the club this summer, with Alejo Veliz hinting at having the midfielder by his side.
Spurs are set to sign the young striker from Rosario Central for around £12 million in the ongoing transfer window. The Estadio Gigante de Arroyito were keen on keeping a hold of the Argentine. But As things stand, the 19-year-old will not be loaned back.
Speaking to ESPN (h/t Evening Standard), Veliz revealed that he was soon going to sign his new Tottenham contract. The youngster also talked about receiving encouragement from Lo Celos.
“I just wait to sign my contract with Spurs, it’s imminent. I will say goodbye to the [Rosario] fans with formal message.
“I spoke with Gio Lo Celso and he told me that I will have his support.”
The forward has been at Rosario since 2019. Subsequently, over the years, the Argentine made a place for himself in the Primera Division side’s senior squad. In 2023, he made 23 appearances in the league for them, scoring 11 goals.
Hopefully, Veliz will fit in seamlessly at the North London side. The 19-year-old will have his compatriots Cristian Romero and Lo Celso at the club. However, it remains to be seen what the future will hold for the midfielder.
As per Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, the Argentina international is being eyed by Barcelona and other teams in Spain. However, Ange Postecoglou wants to keep a hold of the 27-year-old.
Veliz’s comments would suggest that Lo Celso expects to remain at the Lilywhites ahead of the upcoming campaign. However, the transfer market is unpredictable and anything is possible until the end of the window.
At the moment, Tottenham’s middle of the park consists of the likes of Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr as well. But will all of them end up staying this summer? Only time will tell.
