Manchester City want £30 million for Aymeric Laporte amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
Tottenham Hotspur will have to pay £30 million to acquire the services of Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City this summer, according to the Mirror.
The Sky Blues have completed the signing of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig recently for £77 million. Subsequently, the treble winners will now look to cash in on the Spain international in the ongoing transfer window.
However, apart from Spurs, North London rivals Arsenal and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the centre-back’s situation at the Cityzens. But the Etihad Stadium side would prefer selling the 29-year-old to a foreign club.
City signed Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in January 2018. Over the years, the defender has been pivotal to Pep Guardiola’s success at the Sky Blues. But the former Barcelona manager has added other quality centre-backs to his ranks in Manchester.
The Spaniard’s influence at the Etihad Stadium side has dwindled for some time now. Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji have been ever-present in the Cityzens’ starting lineup in the last few months.
Laporte was a secondary figure at City in the 2022/23 term. In the previous campaign, he made just 24 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues, starting in just 11 starts in the league.
At Tottenham, the backline has been shaky for some time now. Ange Postecoglou evidently needs a few reinforcements in the defender. We are close to signing Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg in the ongoing transfer window.
However, we still evidently need more quality options in our ranks. Eric Dier has been inconsistent at the North London side. Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon also have uncertain futures.
