Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou happy with what he saw from Harry Kane in the friendly win over Shakhtar Donetsk
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is not looking too far ahead and is happy with how “invested” Harry Kane is to deliver success for the team.
We all know Bayern Munich are interested in signing the Spurs talisman. The German champions have made their final offer and are seemingly confident of getting the deal done before the deadline of this transfer window.
A few days ago, Sky Sports revealed that if a deal is not struck before the first game of the season, which is against Brentford, Kane would prefer to stay at Tottenham for the remainder of the campaign.
The England captain showed great form in the friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk by scoring four goals in a 5-1 win. Here’s what Postecoglou said about the 30-year-old’s future after the game (h/t Football London):
“From my perspective I don’t know what deadlines means. We know there’s one deadline and that’s the end of the transfer window. Beyond that, I’m in open dialogue with Harry and with the club on a regular basis.
“I’ve said to them that if the status quo changes then inform me. I don’t need to know about the comings and goings in between. I just want to deal with what’s in front of me because I’ve got to still, irrespective of the outcome of that, I’m building a team here.
“I can’t wait for a decision either way to get going. We don’t have the time or the luxury to do that. I’m working with what’s in front of me. You saw today that Harry certainly is invested in what we’re doing and we’ll keep on doing that unless something changes.”
Postecoglou has handled this situation very well so far. And to be fair to Kane, he has shown no signs of throwing the towel in despite the dragging transfer negotiations.
One thing the striker has made clear is that he won’t sign a new contract with the club. So, either he leaves now on a big transfer fee or goes for free next summer unless something dramatic happens in the coming season.
Spurs are in no European competition for the campaign. So, Postecoglou would have added time between games to get more training under the team’s belt and make them ready to do much better in the league.

Spurs finished eighth in the league last time around. With no European distraction and travels, the team must focus on finishing in the top four and hoping to make a cup run and hopefully end the silverware drought once and for all. Doing the latter may tempt Kane to sign an extension, provided he stays till then.
