Bayern Munich consider Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier

Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier is being considered by Bayern Munich as an option in the ongoing transfer window, according to Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.

The Bavarians have been offered the chance to acquire the services of the England international this summer on a consistent basis. To that end, the hierarchy at the Bundesliga giants is thinking about a move for him.

Apart from playing as a centre-back, the 29-year-old is more than capable of playing in the number six position. As a result, he is still one of the options on the Allianz Arena side’s radar.

Tottenham signed Dier in the summer of 2014 from Sporting CP. Since then, the defender has been ever-present in the North London side’s first-team setup. Under Mauricio Pochettino, he played as a right-back, centre-back and defensive midfielder.

However, in recent years, the English national has mostly been deployed in the centre of a back three. Unfortunately, he has been inconsistent and the performances have not been encouraging enough.

Bayern have already signed Harry Kane from Spurs recently. The striker played alongside Dier for years. At the Allianz Arena side, Thomas Tuchel has the likes of Joshua Kimmich, Konrad Laimer and Leon Goretzks at his disposal.

At Tottenham, Dier has left a lot to be desired over the last few seasons. In the previous campaign, the North London side struggled defensively and the former Sporting CP star was one of the main players in our backline.

But Ange Postecoglou does not seem to trust the English national. The defender has not featured for us so far this season. Against Fulham in the second round of the Carabao Cup, where we lost on penalties, the centre-back was left out of the squad.

Therefore, it looks like Dier’s time at the club is coming to an end. If Bayern do end up getting a hold of the English national’s signature, Spurs will evidently need to add appropriate reinforcements to the squad.
