Brighton & Hove Albion close to Tottenham Hotspur target and Barcelona forward Ansu Fati signing
Tottenham Hotspur target and Barcelona forward Ansu Fati is close to signing for Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, according to The Athletic.
Spurs were considering a move for the Spain international in the ongoing transfer window. However, it is the Seagulls who are set to pip the North London side to acquire the services of the forward.
The 20-year-old will join the East Sussex-based club on a season-long loan this summer. However, the proposed deal does not include an option or obligation to buy the youngster from the Blaugrana.
Fati broke onto the scene at Barcelona in the 2019/20 term after making his way through the famous La Masia. Initially, the forward caught a lot of people’s attention with his displays for the Blaugrana.
The Catalan giants seem to have had immense faith in him and handed the academy graduate the number 10 shirt after Lionel Messi’s departure. However, injuries have hampered the youngster’s development at the La Liga outfit over the years.
In the previous campaign, Fati managed to remain fit for the most part. However, Xavi did not seem to have faith in him. The Spaniard has made three appearances off the bench so far this season as well.
At Tottenham, Harry Kane’s departure has left a void in the attack for the North London side. Richarlison has been underwhelming Ange Postecoglou in the 2023/24 term.
Therefore, we could evidently do with a number nine in our ranks. However, Fati mostly plays on the left wing, which is occupied by Son Heung-min at the Lilywhites.

Thus, had the Spaniard come to Spurs, game time was seemingly not guaranteed. As for Brighton, they have some quality talent up front as well, but there is arguably a better chance for the youngster to get regular game time at the Seagulls.
