Cristian Romero suffers calf injury on international duty

Tottenham Hotspur have been hit with a troubling setback as their star centre-back, Cristian Romero, has suffered a calf injury while on international duty with Argentina.

This unexpected turn of events has sent shockwaves through the Spurs’ camp, raising concerns about their defensive stability in the upcoming matches. The news of Romero’s injury was confirmed by journalist Luis Fregossi.

According to Fregossi, the extent of the injury is not yet clear, but it has cast doubt on Romero’s availability for Argentina’s upcoming clash against Bolivia. The player will undergo further assessments tomorrow to determine the severity of the injury.

This injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Tottenham. Cristian Romero has been one of their standout performers since his arrival, delivering rock-solid performances in every game he’s featured in.

Paired with the promising newcomer Micky van de Ven, Romero has formed a formidable defensive partnership that has instilled confidence in the Spurs faithful. Notably, this season has seen Romero take on a leadership role at Tottenham.

With the departure of talismanic striker Harry Kane, manager Ange Postecoglou made the bold decision to appoint Heung-min Son as the captain, with James Maddison and Cristian Romero serving as vice-captains.

Romero’s ascent to the co-vice-captaincy has had a profound impact on his on-field performance. He’s emerged as a more reliable presence at the heart of the defence, marshalling the backline and organizing his teammates with authority.

However, Romero’s injury now leaves Tottenham with a significant void to fill in the centre-back position. With Eric Dier and young defender Ashley Phillips as the only available alternatives, manager Ange Postecoglou faces a tough decision on who should step into Romero’s shoes.
