Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur talks about Ange Postecoglou’s role in rehab
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur opened up about the support and guidance he received from manager Ange Postecoglou during his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament tear. The injury had sidelined him from all of Tottenham’s games since February earlier this year, making his recent return to action a significant moment for the player.
Bentancur’s journey back to the pitch reached a crucial milestone when he made a brief appearance in the match against Crystal Palace. The one-minute cameo marked a significant step in his recovery process.
Reflecting on his injury and recovery, Bentancur shared a conversation he had with manager Postecoglou. The manager had inquired about his well-being and progress, demonstrating genuine concern for the player’s welfare.
Here is what Bentancur told the club’s official YouTube channel on his road to recovery and how Ange helped him out as well:
“I remember I bumped into the manager by the stairs. He asked me how I was, how I was feeling, how the injury was.”
“He gave me his trust from minute one, telling me to take it easy, to make sure that I came back fully fit and that there was no rush, and also to try to come back at the same level that I left because I was playing really well.”
“Now it’s just about getting back up to speed gradually, and to try and get back to the levels that I was before. That’s the idea.”
Bentancur expressed his appreciation for Postecoglou’s support, noting that the manager had entrusted him from the very beginning of his rehabilitation. Postecoglou’s advice was clear: there was no need to rush, and the priority was to return to full fitness without any undue pressure.
The Gaffer’s backing
The manager’s words provided a sense of calm and confidence to Bentancur, reassuring him that the team had faith in his abilities. Postecoglou emphasised the importance of returning to the same high level of performance that Bentancur put up on show before the injury.
Bentancur’s focus has now shifted to gradually regaining his form and fitness, all with the goal of reaching the levels he had achieved prior to his injury.
His determination to return to peak performance is certainly evident, and he is dedicated to putting in the necessary effort to achieve this objective. The road to recovery from a serious injury is never easy, but with the guidance and encouragement of the coaching staff, including Postecoglou, the player has the motivation and backing to overcome the challenges.
