Yves Bissouma shines as Tottenham face a midweek draw against West Ham.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou insists Yves Bissouma was outstanding in Spurs’ mid-week draw at the London Stadium against West Ham United on Tuesday night.
The Lilywhites will rue their chances to acclaim the traditional top four position as an early goal by Brennan Johnson was cancelled by Kurt Zouma’s goal from a corner just before the break. Spurs started the game on top, which soon reaped dividends, thanks to the Welshman, but soon lost control of the game as it progressed.
It got a bit scrappy for both sides, and credit to them, they tried to capitalize on passing sequences, though the final output was missing in a rain-soaked London Derby.
Ange Postecoglou’s Insight
As the chaos surged, Yves Bissouma played beautifully in the midfield. Speaking following the conclusion of the game to Match of the Day, the 27-year-old’s performance caught Ange Postecoglou’s eye. Tottenham signed the Mali international for £25 million with add-ons from Brighton & Hove Albion and his signing is finally reaping rewards.
“I thought he was outstanding. Yves did the defensive work which was always going to be important today. The general effort from the lads was strong. It’s a tough place to come,” Tottenham’s gaffer said.
“There’s a lot of games to go still. I will be very surprised if all games aren’t tight. Everyone is fighting for something. We have to maintain our levels.”
The Mali international made two interceptions in yesterday’s romp, as per Whoscored, while no one on either side managed more. He also looked assured with the ball at his feet, leading the way for completed passes as well,
finding a teammate 91 times from 95 passes.More Tottenham Hotspurs News:
