Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s departure looming?

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou admits midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is not happy with his situation at the club. The Australian gaffer acknowledged the lack of minutes under the Danish international’s belt, as the 28-year-old has gone from being a consistent starter in the past few seasons to only making a few Premier League starts this season under Postecoglou.

Tottenham signed Hojbjerg in 2020 in a £15 million move from Southampton, though it looks like his stay at the N17 is coming to an end.

Despite featuring in 32 games, he has only played for the first team for slightly more than 1,200 minutes cumulatively. Spurs are reportedly ready to sell the former Bayern Munich midfielder in the upcoming summer transfer window.

With his contract up in the summer of 2025, Daniel Levy & Co. are already looking for a potential departure to ensure Tottenham don’t lose him on a free transfer.

Tottenham’s boss spoke about Hojbjerg’s frustration recently, per Football.London:

“No, he’s doing all he can. He mentioned he is training well and he’s not happy he hasn’t played enough. I understand that,” admitted the Australian boss in-charge of Spurs.

“There are probably other players in there who are equally as unhappy that they haven’t been playing. That’s OK. I understand that, they’re human beings.

“What I look at is how are they training, what their attitude is like and when presented with their opportunity are they ready to contribute? Pierre certainly has been, but there are others in that boat as well.”

He was already on the verge of a North London departure last winter as Atletico Madrid expressed interest, although no move materialized, and he ended up staying at the club. Juventus, one of the biggest teams in Italy, are looking to bring the 28-year-old to Turin for a while now.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been a great servant to the club and let him look for pastures beyond Tottenham after the summer, hopefully after doing a job at N17 as we conclude the season vying for a traditional top four finish.
