Danny Murphy praises Tottenham Hotspur ace Radu Dragusin for his ‘outstanding displays’ with Romania
Speaking to BBC Sport, former Tottenham Hotspur footballer and pundit Danny Murphy has praised Radu Dragusin for his ‘outstanding’ defensive displays for Romania in the ongoing Euros 2024 championship.
Dragusin is an exceptional centre-back with a huge future in the game. Tottenham signed him from Genoa last January amidst a crisis in defence but hardly got chances to feature with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero forming an indomitable partnership.
The 22-year-old Romanian defender has caught the eye with his performances for his nation. Edward Iordănescu’s side came into the tournament as underdogs but managed to top their group despite having the likes of Belgium and Ukraine in it.
Although the Romanian team was very much an ensemble cast with different players chipping in with contributions at different times, there was clearly one outright star in the team and that was the Tottenham Hotspur man.
In a squad whose transfer value in its entirety is just €78.1m, Dragusin makes up for €25m of it. The 22-year-old is clearly a star in the making and Spurs seem to have identified his potential much earlier than the rest of the world.
Speaking about the Romanian centre-back, here is what Danny Murphy had to say about his ‘outstanding displays’
“He’s been outstanding, Dragusin. Really, really good at the heart of their defence. Arguably been their best player and Tottenham fans will be delighted watching him in this tournament, that’s for sure.”
This is a nice problem for Ange Postecoglou to have. Having someone like Dragusin who is unable to break into the starting XI reflects strong squad depth and there is no doubt that he will get more opportunities to feature next season.
With Spurs on continental duty along with the domestic commitments, the club would easily play in excess of 50 games next season. Romero and Van de Ven cannot be played week in and week out and we need proper and reliable backups.

Spurs have been smart in their businesses in recent transfer windows and Dragusin seems to be yet another example of the same. Let’s hope he can have a successful career at the N17 and recreate his international exploits in a Lilywhite shirt for years to come.
