Alasdair Gold plays down Tottenham Hotspur links to Federico Chiesa
Speaking on his Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has played down the possibility of Juventus star Federico Chiesa moving to the North London club this summer.
Renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday that Juventus no longer consider the Italian winger as a part of their plans and are willing to part ways with him for as less as €25m with add-ons included.
Since then, there have been talks of Tottenham trying to sign the 26-year-old who was once described as ‘unstoppable one-against-one’ by Italian and Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini. Well, he once was.
Injuries have ruined Chiesa’s career and prevented him from becoming the player he was destined to be. The Italian forward once had a rapid turn of pace and dribbling ability that often let defenders in their wake. Whilst he still does produce the odd piece of magic, it doesn’t work out as often as it did.
All things said, signing a 26-year-old with the Juventus man’s ability for €25m is a gamble any club must be willing to take. If things work out, this transfer fee would prove to be cents on the dollar and Spurs must be aware of the same.
However, speaking about a potential approach for Chiesa, here is what Gold had to say about what he has heard until now
“It’s one of those where you see the price and you’re like ‘ooh’. I asked about Chiesa a few days back around various people and everything coming back was ‘no’. I should stress that was a few days ago,”
