Ange Postecoglou has plans to include Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jamie Donley in pre-season
According to Football. London, Ange Postecoglou has plans to include Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Jamie Donley in his pre-season plans to see what the youngster has to offer.
Donley, along with Mikey Moore are widely regarded as two of the most exciting prospects coming out of the Spurs academy in recent times. Club insider John Wenham recently labelled the player as ‘better than Jobe Bellingham’.
The 19-year-old had a great season last year with his performances indicating that he might be ready for the step up to the next level. A manager like Ange Postecoglou shows immense faith in youth and would be willing to trust Donley despite his age.
Postecoglou, as he also did with Mikey Moore, rewarded Donley with minutes against Manchester City, Newcastle United and Brentford and also received his FA Cup debut against Burnley. He also accompanied the first team to the post-season friendly in Melbourne.
The 19-year-old is predominantly a second striker or an attacking midfielder whilst he can also play as a false nine if required. He has also won seven caps for the England U-19 so far, scoring five goals.
Donley is set to work with Postecoglou in the first team from the coming weekend as he looks to impress during pre-season. If he can convince the Australian gaffer of a role for him in the first-team, Spurs might have an exciting talent in their hands.
Right now, Tottenham don’t have a number 10 replacement for James Maddison in the squad although Dejan Kulusevski performed admirably in that role last season when the former Leicester man was out injured.
At 19, Donley is very young. Whilst all of us Spurs fans would love to see him feature in the first-team sooner rather than later, we must give him the ideal conditions for development and that could mean a loan move or two.
