Jobe Bellingham decides to stay at Sunderland amidst Tottenham Hotspur interest
According to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, 18-year-old midfielder Jobe Bellingham has decided to stay with Championship side Sunderland for another season amidst interest from Premier League clubs including Tottenham Hotspur.
The younger brother of Real Madrid and English superstar Jude Bellingham, the interest in Jobe Bellingham has been high-profile for quite some time now in the Premier League circles. Considered very talented, just like his brother, clubs are keeping a keen eye on him.
There is another layer to this narrative. Premier League clubs made the mistake of not signing Jude Bellingham as a youngster and let him leave for Borussia Dortmund and as they say, ‘the rest is history’.
It is thus understandable that they do not want to repeat the same mistakes with Jobe irrespective of whether he can go on to have a career path as illustrated as his brother’s. However, are these clubs jumping on the hype train a little too soon?
Well, listening to the ex-manager of the Black Cats, Tony Mowbray, one certainly wouldn’t think so. Here is what he had to say about the younger of the Bellingham brothers – “He is very mature for his age. He acts like a seasoned pro, and demands standards. Even in small-sided games, he wants to win.”
According to Romano’s latest update, Bellingham has ruled himself out of a Premier League move this summer and wants to spend one more season with Sunderland in the Championship.
“EXCL: Jobe Bellingham’s plan is to stay at Sunderland at least for one more season despite interest from several Premier League clubs. Crystal Palace have been pushing for weeks but Jobe’s current stance is to stay and trust #SAFC ambitious project.”
Well, if Jobe has the same decision-making genes as his high-profile older brother, he might be making a wise move for his career. At 18, he needs regular game time and he might feel he is not yet ready for the step up to the Premier League.
Tottenham have shown a penchant for signing high-profile youngsters, having just acquired Archie Gray from Leeds United who is also of the same age. That said, Jobe might not be a wise decision to splash our cash on.

It does seem like the door is closed for this summer and that might be a blessing in disguise for Spurs. This gives them the perfect opportunity to recalibrate ahead of next summer and in the meantime, also give chances to academy stars like Jamie Donley and Mikey Moore to see if we need to sign from outside at all.
