Spurs leading the race for England U16 starlet Harrison Miles
According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Spurs are leading the race for 15-year-old English defender Harrison Miles.
The England U16 captain has recently left the Southampton academy after the expiration of his contract with them and, apart from Spurs, is also being chased by their north London rivals Arsenal as well as Man City.
Despite being 15, Miles turned out for the Southampton U21 side last season and played more prominently for the U18s. Capable of playing as a defensive midfielder as well as at centre-back, Miles made 4 appearances in the U18 Premier League and 2 appearances in Premier League 2 last season.
According to the TEAMtalk report, Spurs are also in for England U15 defender Harley Emsden-James, another Southampton departee.
Spurs going in for young talents keeps in line with the promise of their Technical Director, Johan Lange, who ever since arriving at the club from Aston Villa last season has been ensuring he backs his promises of making the club an exciting prospect for youngsters with due action.
“First of all we want to be a destination for the best young talent out there and that can be talent coming into our academy in the foundation phase, or later and being developed in the academy.
“It’s very important when we are out there watching potential new players that they fit with the style of play, but also with the personality of the group that we want to build here. We are very fortunate to have a head coach in Ange [Postecoglou] who is crystal clear in how he wants to play and wants to train, which kind of personalities he’s looking for to build a squad here as well.”
These were the words Lange used to describe his ambitions and method of operating at Spurs back in February, as quoted by Football London.
During his time at Villa, the 44-year-old Danish executive was responsible for bringing to Villa Park the likes of Emiliano Martínez, Matty Cash, and Ollie Watkins.
Lange following up on his promise
Spurs have a long road ahead of them. Not being able to make the Champions League last season after a strong start and despite Aston Villa’s weak finish, their 2023/24 campaign significantly exceeded expectations given how low the mood was around the club the season before.
Lange is a big part of resuscitating Spurs’ reputation for being exciting and attractive again. At least, he is willing to work towards what he had promised upon arriving, and there’s little one can ask for as a fan in modern football when promises are little more than hollow shells.
