Tottenham are the last ones standing in the race for Chelsea star Conor Gallagher
Speaking on the London is Blue Podcast, renowned journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are the last ones standing in the race to sign Chelsea star Conor Gallagher.
Spurs being interested in the 24-year-old Englishman is not new news. Gallagher, the Chelsea academy product has looked close to leaving Stamford Bridge for quite some time now but a deal hasn’t materialised.
Chelsea aren’t shy of binning their academy graduates with the likes of Marc Guehi, Tammy Abraham, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount all being moved on for different reasons. It’s fair to say that all these players have gone on to have decent careers elsewhere except for Mount.
Gallagher could be the next name on the list with Ange Postecoglou looking to bring the English midfielder to the N17. Just yesterday, it emerged that Spurs are likely to miss out on the player but Jacobs has offered a new update.
Currently on England duty at the Euros 2024, Gallagher has found himself out of Gareth Southgate’s plans after a solitary start in the group stage, with Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo being preferred.
Speaking about Gallagher’s potential destinations this summer, here is what Ben Jacobs had to say
“I think Villa can’t afford Gallagher at the moment even though they made an exploratory approach. Atletico Madrid made an informal offer of about €20m, which is way below Chelsea’s valuation, so there’s nothing doing there.”
“That really only leaves Spurs at the moment, and even with Archie Gray joining Tottenham they’ll still be in the mix for Conor Gallagher. Their valuation is the same as it was 12 months ago, somewhere around £35m, whereas Chelsea are saying Gallagher should go for a similar price to Mason Mount, a £55m package.”
“We wait and see if something gives. £40-45m might do it, but Chelsea are bullish at the moment. Right now the situation is as it has been for months. Nothing advanced with a new Gallagher deal, Chelsea want £50-55m, Tottenham are likely to bid.”
Speaking about the talented 24-year-old, here is what former Spurs favourite and manager Mauricio Pochettino had to say – “He’s a player with great commitment with the team. Always trying to compensate every situation in an offensive and defensive situation and that is priceless to have a player like him.”
Pochettino is definitely a former favourite. He was loved and adored by Spurs fans but ruined his standing with us by choosing to manage Chelsea. One thing he can be credited is for bringing the best out of Gallagher.

If Postecoglou manages to sign the 24-year-old this summer, he will have a useful and versatile player on his roster. It’ll be worth the money we spend on him even if the player often divides opinions. Let’s hope we manage to get this deal over the line.
