Tottenham have to pay £20m for Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Tottenham Hotspur are showing concrete interest in signing the talented Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, with Brentford and Crystal Palace also keeping an eye out on the 18-year-old.

The Birmingham Academy graduate joined Sunderland last summer. The midfielder has impressed in the Championship for the Black Cats last season. The young midfielder scored seven goals and provided an assist in 47 games across all competitions for Sunderland, who finished 16th in the Championship.

His performances in the Championship have attracted Premier League clubs to acquire his signature. Spurs need to bolster their midfield this summer. Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is currently searching for midfielders in the transfer market to replace deadwood in the squad.

The Aussie coach is impressed with Bellingham’s performance in the Championship and is eyeing to reinforce Spurs’ midfield by adding Bellingham. The England U-20 international could be interested in accepting offers from Premier League clubs, and joining any of the top-flight clubs can help the young midfielder develop his game.

Are Tottenham forgetting in-house options?

Club insider John Wenham claims that Spurs’ academy star Jamie Donley could do better than Bellingham. Donley is a Tottenham youth team star who had a dazzling season in the last Premier League 2. The versatile midfielder scored eight goals and provided 17 assists for the youth team last season across all competitions, also appearing in four games for the senior team under Mauricio Pochettino. The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose said to Tottenham Hotspur News.

“He’s not a player I am interested in us signing to be brutally honest. Whenever I’ve watched him play for England, I’ve always come away with the feeling that Donley is better than him. Therefore, I wouldn’t want to be adding someone to the club who I don’t think is a better option than what we’ve already got.”

“I’d rather we save the £20million and put it toward a big-name signing while promoting Donley instead.”

Sunderland are looking for a fee of more than £20m for their young midfielder, and it will be a huge amount for Spurs to spend on an inexperienced Premier League player. The hype for Bellingham can also increase his price as Brentford and Crystal Palace are still in the race, and then Spurs have to pay more than £20 to get the deal over the line.

Spurs have plenty of options in their academy, Players like Donley, Mikey Moore, and Will Lankshear thrived last season, and they are waiting for their permanent spot in the senior team.

Jamie Donley is a prized asset for the North London club and the versatile player is capable of manning different roles. The young prodigy has already proven himself as a clinical finisher for the youth team, and Ange, who is looking forward to creating a strong attacking line for Spurs, can use the youngster as a backup option in the front line.

Promoting the academy stars will be the best option for the club instead of paying a hefty amount for Bellingham or any other inexperienced heads. It’s always wise to look within before casting a net in the market.
