Tottenham set to miss out on Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher
According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are set to miss out on Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher with the player likely to stay at the West London club for next season.
Gallagher and Spurs have been a topic of discussion for way too long now without much headway in negotiations. Despite the North London club’s explicit interest in the 24-year-old, they haven’t been able to sign the Chelsea academy product.
Despite the talented young midfielder being in a contract stalemate with the West London club with his current deal expiring in 2025 (Transfermarkt), the player seems set to stay in Chelsea where he is likely to work out his contract situation.
Currently away on England duty for Gareth Southgate’s team, Gallagher has divided opinion with his inclusion in the team. He started one game for the Three Lions before losing his spot at half-time to Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo.
He still emerges as an important option off the bench who Southgate can bring on to close the game out. His energy is infectious and his incessant pressing often makes a difference in an otherwise docile English team.
Arsenal superstar Declan Rice acknowledged the same when talking about the 24-year-old. Here is what he had to say – “I’ve played against him when he was at Crystal Palace and Chelsea, and I’ve played with him in the academy team. He is a player I would love to have in my team. He works his socks off. You feel so safe and secure in there with him. He has surprised so many people this year with his ability on the ball. How he breaks forward with it, how he gets into the box and scores goals.”
Not the most technically gifted on the ball, Gallagher has always divided opinion even amongst his fans. What he does on a football pitch though cannot be understated and he seems to be a leader at a very young age as well.
Having signed Archie Gray, Spurs might not be that desperate about signing Gallagher any more. However, they will want to keep a close eye on how his situation at Chelsea develops to see if they can make a move in the future.
