Tottenham Hotspur eye Rennes winger Desire Doue in the summer
Former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic praised Desire Doue, who is a potential target for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Several top-tier clubs, including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and PSG, are vying for the player from French club Rennes, per journalist Kostas Lianos.
Doue is a young French forward who impressed in the Ligue 1 for Rennes last season. The 19-year-old winger created a huge impact on the club with his performances. He scored four goals and six assists for the French side across all competitions, which helped the club finish 10th in the French League.
The young forward signed his first professional contract with the club in 2022 following his stint with the youth team. He has been a versatile player for the club for the last two seasons, as he has proved his abilities in all the forward positions and the midfield too. His ability to handle multiple positions has caught the eye of different clubs across Europe including Spurs.
Former Manchester United star Nemanja Matic has been impressed with Doue’s talent by playing along with him in Rennes in the last campaign. Matic spent the first half of last campaign with Rennes before joining Lyon in January.
“In my entire career, I’ve never played in such a young team, with players at 19 or 20 years old. [But] it’s always interesting to see how they progress. Desire has great potential.”
Matic said to the French newspaper Ouest France (h/t Football London).
Should Tottenham sign Desire Doue?
Ange Postecoglou is currently revamping the North London club and he has also targeted certain players in the summer transfer window to bolster the squad. Doue is primarily a left-winger but he has proved his ability in Rennes by handling multiple positions in the front line.
Ange could use the French forward in the upcoming season to back his squad up. The left wing of Spurs is currently led by captain Son Heung-min, 31, who will turn 32 next month and might not have many years left at the top of the game. Doue will be a future asset for Spurs in the left flank if he continues his form at N17.
Ange may want to wrap up the deal as soon as possible before other clubs make a move for the Frenchman and the gaffer also needs to fill some holes in the squad through signings.
