The arrival of Archie Gray could mean the end for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, with José Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe lurking
According to Sky Sports and talkSPORT journalist Dan Bardell, as reported by Tottenham Hotspur News, the signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United could spell the end for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg at the north London club.
The 18-year-old defensive sensation is being considered quite the coup from Spurs, and given the positions he is capable of occupying, the Denmark international finds himself in a peculiar position.
Having completed four seasons at Spurs, being a key player for them for the most part, Højbjerg was on the periphery of the first team last season in what was Ange Postecoglou‘s debut campaign.
Now, as his exit draws near, Højbjerg is being linked with a move to his former manager José Mourinho‘s new side, Fenerbahçe.
The Portuguese played a key role in bringing Højbjerg to Spurs back in 2020 from Southampton. He also jokingly called him “Zidane” once during a Europa League game that year.
‘We were having a laugh at half-time and we were all calling him Zidane. Very nice but don’t do it again, Pierre!’

Højbjerg’s £100k-a-week contract at Spurs is set to expire by the end of the 2024/25 season.
It’s time to move Højbjerg on
Højbjerg has been a loyal servant for Tottenham in his four years at the club, but last season made it abundantly clear that he is not an integral part of Postecoglou’s plans going forward.
With new young blood in Gray at the club, and with his contract expiring in 12 months (Transfermarkt), this summer is the only time Spurs can get a fee for Højbjerg, to whom they won’t be handing a new contract as things stand.

Moreover, Højbjerg is a Mourinho player through and through, and the Portuguese needs all the help he can get to win trophies out in Türkiye. If a move could materialise, it would work out for all the parties involved here.
