AS Roma make first move for Tottenham Hotspur target Federico Chiesa
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport via Roma Press, AS Roma have made the first move to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Federico Chiesa from Juventus, having presented the player with a three-year contract.
Spurs’ interest in the Italian winger has been prevalent quite significantly since the beginning of last week. One of the most exciting players to watch in world football when in full song, Chiesa is set to be available for a transfer this summer.
Juventus are moving towards a new project under manager Thiago Motta and have decided to let the Euros 2020 star leave. Chiesa’s abilities make him an exciting prospect for any club that signs him next.
Once an electric winger who was almost unplayable on his day, injuries have dented Chiesa’s confidence. Whilst the player still shows flashes of his brilliance, they do not come off as often as they used to.
Chiesa had a disappointing Euros in line with his international teammates as Italy stumbled to a Round of 16 elimination to Switzerland. It was a truly disappointing showing from the reigning European champions.
Roma have now made the first concrete move in this race for Chiesa. They have approached the player with a contract proposal which is now on the table and it remains to be seen if they start negotiations with the club.
At 26, Chiesa is likely to have the best years of his footballing career ahead of him. Despite the poor displays, rather inconsistent ones in the past couple of seasons, the Italian is expected to return to his best.
The next move could be make or break for Chiesa. He could either go on to realise his true potential at his next club or his career might spiral from here. It remains to be seen who is willing to take the gamble.
