Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Baris Alper Yilmaz from Galatasaray
Liverpool has advanced with a move for Tottenham Hotspur target Baris Alper Yilmaz from Galatasaray. The Turkish winger has lit up the Euro stage with his magnificent performances for the national side. After joining Manchester United in the race, it will be a three-way battle between the Premier League clubs for Alper Yilmas, per Milliyet.
Turkey being the underdogs in Euro 2024 have stolen football lovers’ hearts with their campaign performances. Vincenzo Montella’s team has advanced to the Euro knockout stage. Turkey’s Euro journey ended with their defeat against the Netherlands in the quarterfinals.
The journey to the last eight was incredible and the victory against Ralf Ragnick’s Austria was also a remarkable achievement for Turkey in the campaign. Despite losing the match against the Netherlands, the Turkish team had a good fight against the Orange.
Turkish winger Alper Yilmas was a constant performer for Turkey throughout the campaign. He has started all the games for the underdogs and took the key responsibility of attacking in the right flank. He has created several chances for Turkey, which helped them score goals. He was also praised by Liverpool stopper Virgil van Dijk after the quarterfinal battle, per Haberler.
“Barış Alper Yılmaz was constantly running. He was running in an unstoppable way. It’s difficult for any defender. He really challenged us. He couldn’t score but if we were to describe him somehow, he is truly an important player.”
Tottenham for a three-way battle for Alper Yilmaz
Liverpool immediately started to work on the deal after the match. Alper Yilmaz scored seven goals and 12 assists for his club across all campaigns in the last season for Galatasaray and also helped them win the Super Lig title.
He has a contract until 2027 with the Turkish side, and the club is all set to ask for €30m for his service. The Premier League clubs will have tough competition between them to acquire his signature.
Tottenham are currently reinforcing their squad with new signings in the summer, and manager Ange Postecoglou is aiming to create a strong side ahead of the new season. Ange managed the right wing in the last campaign, with Dejan Kulusevski, who did brilliant work on the right flank, also scoring some goals.
Ange would use the Turkish winger as a backup option for Kulusevski, or he may hand over the flank to him by giving Kulsevski a new position in the squad. Ange could increase the pace of attacking by adding him to the North London club, which will also be effective in counter-attacks.
