Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a new injury in Uruguay vs Colombia
According to Elobservador, Tottenham Hotspur star Rodrigo Bentancur has suffered a new injury in Uruguay’s clash vs Colombia with the player going off the pitch in tears after just 33 minutes into the semifinal.
The ex-Juventus man has had a torrid time with injuries in recent seasons. He spent almost nine months out between February 2023 and November 2023 with an ACL injury but made a successful return on schedule.
A horrible tackle on his first start since his return from injury meant two more months out with another injury but made a miraculous return in no time. Since then, he played a key role for Ange Postecoglou in midfield.
Marcelo Bielsa called the Uruguayan up for Copa America duty and he played a middling role in his side’s impressive semifinal run. Whilst Bentancur was not a guaranteed starter in every game, he did enjoy a significant place in the ex-Leeds United man’s plans.
Starting the game against Colombia in the all-important semifinal, Bentancur lasted all but 33 minutes before asking to go off. Coincidentally, he could not track back during the opponent’s goal which ended up being the match-winner.
Bentancur has been linked with a move to Turkey this summer. Despite being one of the more important midfielders in Tottenham, it looks like the North London club might be willing to let him leave this summer.
Speaking about the talented midfielder, Ange Postecoglou called him an extremely ‘positive guy’ through all his injury troubles. Yet, Bentancur broke down when he could not continue for his country in one of their most important games in recent times.
Bentancur has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in recent times. His future at the N17 is far from certain and the club need to make sure they sign an apt replacement should they decide to sell him.
