Everton re-open talks with Tottenham Hotspur to look over the terms of the Dele Alli transfer
According to Liverpool Echo, Everton are set to re-open talks with Tottenham Hotspur to modify the terms of the transfer that took Dele Alli to Merseyside.
Once tipped for super-stardom, Alli’s career has been a free fall for a few seasons now with his performances being a pale shadow of the player who broke through as a teenager at Tottenham and created quite the impact.
To put it into perspective, when Alli was breaking through at Spurs, he had an aura surrounding him that is quite similar to the one Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham has at the moment. Under Mauricio Pochettino, he was one of the best players in the Tottenham team.
Ever since Jose Mourinho took over at Spurs though, the 28-year-old’s career has only spiralled southwards. Eventually, Tottenham made the hard decision to part ways with the player, letting him leave for Everton.
Whilst Spurs did not gain a transfer fee from this deal, they had performance-related incentives worked into the deal but Dele Alli has hardly turned up for the Toffees, meaning the North London club have hardly profited from the deal.
Dele Alli came out last season and admitted that he had been struggling mentally. He received widespread support from the footballing fraternity and was called ‘brave and inspirational’ for his courage to come out and speak.
No one would have ever imagined Dele Alli struggle as much as he has in recent seasons. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid was on course to become one of England’s best-ever players and yet, here we are!
The 28-year-old did not play a single minute for the Toffees under Sean Dyche last season owing to a groin injury. He was close to returning to action close to the new year but suffered a relapse, which has kept him out since.

Now that he is closing in on a return to action, Everton once again want Spurs to re-evaluate the terms of the transfer. It remains to be seen if Spurs budge but considering how Alli’s career has panned out, they are not left with much of a choice. Let’s wait and see how this particular transfer saga pans out.
